MS-451PV Medical Device Packager
Ten years in product design and development and two US patents later, the MS-451PV is here.
This innovative new medical device packager will change the way medical device companies manage their sterile packaging program. With advanced integration, medical device quality teams can now manage in-process visual inspection and destructive testing on one integrated packaging machine. The MS-451PV medical pouch sealer controls all critical packaging attributes in order to ensure seal-to-seal consistency. An advanced transducer manages platen pressure that electronically feeds back data to the microprocessor in real time.
The MS-451PV medical device bag sealer also manages the platen’s thermal environment with a K-type thermocouple that is configured to sample pouch environment. But the MS-451PV does much more. This advanced system allows quality teams to program required stop and test functions into the machine. This function will automatically stop production, prompting the operator to perform first a visual seal inspection with our low angle of light 3x magnification visual inspection tester. Learn More
MS-350 Medical Pouch Sealer
Sterile device packaging's best friend, the MS-350 medical pouch sealer.
The MS-350 medical pouch sealer has gained an outstanding reputation for nearly 20 years as a robust, reliable, workhorse of a sealer. Unlike many packaging machines in our industry that build their sealers on mild steel cases, the MS-350 medical device sealer is built from the cast-aluminum base plate up to perform for the long haul. Unlike many packaging machines in our industry, the MS-350 medical pouch sealer does not use inexpensive air valves to actuate the critical pressure at the platen. Our custom-built solenoid, that is minutely controlled through the system’s advanced microprocessor, delivers consistent seal-to-seal pressure performance at the platen. The MS-350 medical pouch sealer has gained an incredible reputation in our industry and literally millions of seals are created each day through our network of users of this advanced system.
With the MS-350 comes the security of a captive lock-out alarm function that will monitor several critical attributes of the machine’s action when the machine is in use. For instance, if heat isn’t detected by the thermocouple, the machine will lock-up and not allow the sealer to function. If the pressure switch is not adjusted correctly, the machine will also lock-out, not allowing its continued use. The machine even evaluates the supply voltage in order to be certain that the machine is receiving adequate power for operation. Learn More
MD-850 Medical Rotary Sealer
This advanced medical packager is German-designed and built for precision duty, MD-850-US.
German engineered and built, the MD-850-US medical pouch sealer is an excellent choice for medical device companies wishing to seal their TyVek® and clear film pouch. With complete attention to the rigors of the sterile barrier system, the MD-850-US is a production performer. Simply feed the opened end of your pouch and the MD-850-US advanced conveyance system feeds your pouch across dual-heated platens that are precisely controlled using the system’s on-board computer.
Also, the MD-850-US also can be used with our optional roller table in order to support heavy medical devices such as orthopedic implants, etc. As your pouch conveys through the system, it now enters into the transducer-monitored pinch roller that engenders approximately 100 Newtons of force onto the pouch, finishing the sealing and curing process. After the pouch is sealed, it continues past the print head and the unit now can print important markings such as ISO symbolization, expiration dating, date of manufacturing, lot codes, etc. All the printing is performed on the non-sterile side of the seal. We encourage you to view the video of this sealer in action in order to see how quickly all the above actions are performed. Operators continue to feed in open pouches, which makes for impressive throughput numbers at the end of each shift. Learn More
OPL Series Medical Pouch Sealer
Validatable, solenoid-driven and affordable, the OPL series medical pouch sealer
The OPL series medical pouch sealer has been the leading choice among many medical device companies throughout the US and Canada. This microprocessor-controlled pouch sealer manages critical temperature at the sealing platen with a thin-film temperature sensor. This sensor, designed to mimic the pouch environment, accurately feeds back thermal data in order to assure repeatable seals.
The OPL series sterile packaging sealers creates a wide 10mm seal in order to create a robust sealed channel between the sterile part and the ambient environment. The OPL medical pouch sealer includes a switch table (on 300mm models only) that allows operators to activate the switch with the side of their hands during packaging. The air-switch can be removed from the table docking station and set on the floor in order to be used as a foot switch.
This sealer further has an option to be set in the auto-cycle mode, which is user-adjustable and can be set in 1/10th second increments, up to 5 seconds. In this mode, the machine will automatically cycle. This creates a highly ergonomic packaging flow and allows production to pace the packaging rate. Learn More
PTT-100V Package Testing Unit
Complete package quality lab right on your desktop, the PTT-100V
Quality teams agree - the best way to thwart the risk of a packaging failure in the market is accurate and regular testing and inspection. A product recall due to packaging failures is a senseless risk that can devastate a medical device company.
Van der Stahl Scientific’s package integrity lab understands the value of regular and thorough testing and it is within that spirit that we have developed the all new PTT-100V. This patented medical pouch test and inspection unit has received outstanding reviews from our customers. The PTT-100V’s compact size facilitates the placement of the unit throughout your facility. This system can even be used in the cleanroom for in-process visual inspection of your medical pouches.
This system is designed to harmonize with an ASTM-1886 and will add an important element of seal evaluation. After the operator visually inspects the seal, they can simply tap the pass button or the fail button, depending on the outcome of the visual inspection. If the product fails the visual inspection, the operator is prompted to input one of 10 possible seal failure causations. Once the operator selects the corresponding number of the failure, the unit will date and time stamp the inspection and this information can be purged later on the unit’s included software.
The onboard memory will also hold, as well as date/time stamp, all seal strength information that is recorded on the PTT-100V’s tensile tester. This data archiving is an important part of an audit path. To find out how the PTT-100V testing and inspection unit should serve your quality team’s quality program, call and speak with one of your certified packaging engineers at 1-800-550-3854.
Viu2 Visual Inspection Unit
The system will first of all sense if a pouch is in the visual zone, which will then allow the operator to inspect and then either pass or fail based on the visual feedback of the inspector. If it passes, the system will date and time stamp the event. The operator will also include the lot number as well as the serial number of the sealing machine that was used under the operator’s name for a very complete inspection session reference.
If the seal presents with any of the known failures that are shown on the included laminated reference card, the operator may then select the failure number that corresponds with the type of event and failure, i.e., pleats or channels and all of the above reference tags can also be included. Later, when the quality group wishes to purge the unit for interpretation, they simply connect a USB cable and download the information from the VIU2 to the included VIU software.
Again, this system is not meant to replace destructive pouch testing challenges such as burst and peel. The scope of this device is to simply mechanize the inspector’s point of vision for better repeatable results and to further record that data in order to better manage your sterile device packaging quality plan. more

Patented Technology in Progress
Van der Stahl Scientific is excited about its latest technology. The V402-VGT. This patent pending technology is slated to change the way medical device packaging companies package atmosphere critical medical devices. Many medical device companies that produce medicine embedded devices have found that an ambient environment can produce moisture within the pouch have damaged the efficaciousness of their embedded drug.
Moisture has been shown in many drug embedded devices to change the chemical structure of the embedded drug and therefore medical device makers have been struggling for solid solutions to manage this unfavorable environment. With a newV402-VGT, device companies can remove the ambient environment from the pouch and further, flushes the pouch with an inert gas such as nitrogen or argon.
This flushing process greatly aids in the removal of unwanted gases within the pouch, creating a more stable environment for the drug-embedded medical device. But there is another important aspect to gas flushing a medical pouch. This process also removes the oxidization of an embedded drug and device by leaving behind only inert gas that will not oxidize the chemistry or part. Many packaging engineers have also found that by vacuuming their part tightly within a tray in a flexible pouch they’re also able to make stable the device within the pouch. more
